This project was inspired by a painting of Venus from before AD 79, called "Venus rising from the sea", that is located in the Casa della Venere in conchiglia, Pompeii (Italy). We used pearls because they come from shells, and it's said Venus was born from a bivalve shell, fertilized by the sea foam. Venus is the Roman goddess of love, beauty, desire, sex, fertility, prosperity and victory. My model, Julia, represents the women in the world, all goddesses in their own right.
