About Thehorus:

Thehorus is a passionate photographer based in Florence, Italy. He handles cameras since he was a kid and he has grown up as a photographer by studying books, following workshops and cooperating with some other professional photographer. He has met some important photographers during workshops, such as Douglas Kirkland, Jeff Dunas, Steve Mc Curry, Ferdinando Scianna and Gabriele Rigon.

Thehorus is now playing with photography and investigating the mystery and beauty of women. He is interested in cooperating with models and photographers in organizing photographic events near Tuscany, Italy.

We have asked Jon several questions about Boudoir Photography and here are his answers:

01) What does boudoir photography mean to you?

Boudoir photography is a way of researching and experiencing the mystery and charm of women, and through them, expressing a part of me.

02) Why did you choose to pursue a career as a boudoir / fine art photographer? What got you started in boudoir?

I approached the photography of women through the portrait, fashion and nude genres. First by attending courses and workshops, then experimenting firsthand with personal projects. I find finally the boudoir genre to be the most seductive and intriguing.

Photography help me to have good relationship with other people.

03) What kind of creative process is there behind boudoir photography?

The boudoir genre has a language made of seduction and mystery, explicit sensuality and imagination. Representing the beauty of women playing with these ingredients is very stimulating, and it is a way of celebrating and paying homage to beauty.

04) How do you communicate with a client or model you’ve just met to make them comfortable for boudoir / nude photography?

When I plan such a shooting, human contact and communication with the model is very important; before, during and after the shooting. Mutual knowledge, and the sharing of an idea / mood for the set is very important, and certainly facilitates obtaining an excellent result. The model is the most important person in the world in that very moment of the shooting, and respect for her is the most important thing.

05) How do you educate yourself to take better photos?

I would summarize it in four points:

1) OBSERVE: observe the photographs and works of others, and understand what attracts and pleases us in the work of other photographers and masters. And, why not, also look at the art of paintings.

2) THINK: trying to think and understand what I want to communicate with my photography

3) DISCARD: be critic with my work, and learn to be selective in the results obtained

4) PRACTICE: the best recipe is to practice practice and practice ... only in this way can you improve quickly

06) How would you describe your photography style?

I believe it is a mix of elegance, simplicity, mystery.

07) What type of cameras do you shoot with, boudoir and/vs other?

I only use Nikon full frame SLR cameras with fixed lenses. Mostly 35 and 50mm; rarely 85mm and 20mm.

08) What kind of other gear do you use for boudoir and/vs other?

I try to be essential, both in the studio and on location; one good main light (flash or natural), camera, smile and good music.

09) Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

I love some works born from projects; but also some simple single shooting, that bring the knowledge with special models.

10) What is the most difficult part of being a boudoir photographer for you?

Find the right person to photograph and interpret; boudoir photography is also made of soul, not only of beauty in itself. The most difficult and rewarding thing is to find a soul, in addition to a body.

11) What is the most rewarding part of being a boudoir photographer for you?

The sincere appreciation of the model.

12) Just for fun, if you could shoot in any location, what would it be?

One of that old luxurious palace in Venice.

13) Do you have any other profession or anything you are passionate about?

Well photography is not my job, but definitely my only great passion!
